Potential of Paulownia leaves silage in lamb diet to improve ruminal fermentation and fatty acid profile – an <i>in vitro</i> study

Abstract Environmental impact, quality, and quantity of food products ruminant origin (especially beef mutton) are considered major challenges in meeting the nutritional requirements growing human population worldwide. Therefore, we conducted this vitro study to explore potential Paulownia leaves silage (PLS) reduce environmental impact feedlot lamb production improve ruminal fatty acids (FAs) profile by influencing biohydrogenation. In present study, alfalfa (AAS) were mixed a proportion 1:0 (Control, PLS 0%), 0.75:0.25 (PLS 25%), 0.5:0.5 50%), 0.25:0.75 75%) 0:1 100%) on dry matter (DM) basis diet. The experimental findings demonstrated that 100% replacement AAS with diet significantly improved fermentation increasing DM degradability (P&lt;0.01), total volatile acid propionate (P&lt;0.01) while reducing acetate: (A/P) ratio CH 4 concentration (mM; L Q P&lt;0.05) , mM/g (L P&lt;0.05). Meanwhile, inclusion increased monounsaturated (P&lt;0.05), unsaturated n-3 (P&lt;0.05) particularly alpha-linolenic (ALA; C18:3 n -3; rumen fluid after incubation. Moreover, saturated was reduced (P&lt;0.01). These suggested could be climate-friendly sustainable alternative for quality meat production.
